Could the situation in Iceland be any worse? First the country enduring a financial meltdown. I believe Iceland was the first country to declare bankruptcy this past Autumn (BusinessWeek). Now there’s this volcanic eruption (BBC) happening. Really just terrible.
I dreamed of going to Reykjavik once. It seems like a cool place. It’d be easy to talk about The Sugarcubes or Björk here. But I wasn’t really into The Sugarcubes much. They were a band that I should have liked. In practice it was not to be. I do like Björk some, and I may talk about her first album here sometime. But really I think this admiration is carryover from having a high school crush on her.
My friend Megan introduced me to Sigur Rós around the start of the millennium. I couldn’t believe this sound coming from this band. What crazy instruments were making those noises!? It was beautiful, ethereal, foreign, heavy.
