Thank you for the opportunity to participate in this process. I know that only a few individuals were considered to provide a Design Direction for the Backpack site, so for that I am truly honored.
I also saw an opportunity to consolidate all the offerings in one place. If someone landed on the site from an affiliate or the backpackit.com domain, then that person might discover Campfire or Highrise in that visit too. That person might also scroll down to learn more about 37signals in the footer (or click on the 37signals logo to view the main homepage).
The assignment was to design the Backpack homepage. However, I wanted to show you how the grid would work on interior pages. You can click on Tour in the top navigation to see how the design might work with content pages.
The design does not reflect launch ready code. I wanted to illustrate the concept inside a browser (the latest Safari or Firefox preferably). So, without further adieu...
10+ years designing for the Web. I am currently Senior Art Director for Crate and Barrel's Internet operations. I manage the team that is responsible for the design and production of the company websites (crateandbarrel.com and cb2.com), interactive marketing campaigns, and in-store interactive displays. I work closely with the Internet business unit and Web development group to ensure that the Crate and Barrel and CB2 brands maintain their integrity when translated into the digital medium. I have helped guide Crate and Barrel's visual digital presence for seven years. Prior to my work at Crate and Barrel I worked at Organic, an interactive agency, where I designed and developed online solutions for industry leaders such as Target and FTD.
